At the beginning of each month Bird In Flight updates you about photo contests for both professional photographers and photography lovers.
Siena International Photo Awards
Deadline: May 9, 2016.
Entry fee: €15 for three photos, €20 – for ten, €30 for twenty images or a photo story, discounts for the participants under 20.
Award: €1,500 for the winner, participation in the exhibition for the finalists.
Works are being accepted in nine categories: “Travel photography”, “People and portraits”, “Wildlife”, “Nature”, “Sports”, “Wine”, “Photo story” (five to nine images), and “Open category.”
Landskrona Foto & Breadfield Dummy Award 2016
Deadline: May 10, 2016.
Entry fee: €30
Award: publication of a photo book.
A call for the best photo book project. Four finalists will get a chance to present their projects in front of the jury; the winner will get a contract with Breadfield Publishing. Design, printing (500 copies) and distribution will be handled by the publisher; the author will receive a larger number of books to dispose over and sell.
Lugano Photo Days
Deadline: May 15, 2016.
Entry fee: €23
Award: €2,300 and a partial coverage of expenses for visiting the photo festival in Lugano.
Documentary photography contest for professional and amateur photographers. To participate one has to send eight images on any chosen topic; the Director of WPP Lars Boering will be among the judges.
Canon Female Photojournalism Award
Deadline: May 17, 2016.
Award: €8,000 to continue an ongoing project, presentation of the project at the Perpignan Festival.
No entry fee.
Contest for professional female documentary photographers, organized by Canon and Elle magazine. To participate one needs to upload on server ftp.images-evidence.com the following documents: signed application form, passport or id scan, letter of motivation with a description of the project, budget and 10-20 photos from the project that is to be continued.
Cortona on the Move
Deadline: May 22, 2016.
Entry fee: €10 per project.
Award: €4,000
This year’s contest topic is happiness. Each participant can submit up to three photo projects of 8-15 images each. Works are to be evaluated by ten judges, among whom are Daphne Angles of The New York Times (Paris) and Fiona Rogers of Magnum.
WRA Documenting Humanity
Deadline: May 31, 2016.
Entry fee: €10
Award: Master Award — €6,000, Spot Light Award — €3,000, Short Story Award — €1,000.
Open contest of documentary photography accepts submissions in three categories: Master Award (for anyone, 20-40 photographs to be submitted), Spot Light Award (for those who have not received the following awards: World Press Photo, W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography, Pulitzer Prize, POYi Picture of the Year and World.Report Award, 20-40 photographs to be submitted), and Short Story Award (for anyone, 5-10 photographs to be submitted.) Particular attention will be dedicated to projects covering social and cultural aspects of life.
RPS International Print Competition
Deadline: May 31, 2016.
Entry fee: £15 for the participants under 30, £20 for the RPS members, and £30 for others.
Award: several awards £4,250 each, participation in the yearly mentorship program Metro Imaging, participation in the exhibition.
The contest organized by Royal Photographic Society accepts photographs on any topic; one participant can submit up to four images.
Urban Photo Awards
Deadline: May 31,2016.
Entry fee: €10 for one image, €5 for each of the following; €30 for the photo series.
Award: €1,300 for the winner, €500 and €300 for two runner ups.
Street photography contest accepts submissions in three categories: “Urban”, “Nature” and “Sports.” The special section “Projects and portfolio” is dedicated to photo stories on any subject.
The Alfred Fried Photography Award
Deadline: June 1, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: €10,000
The award named after the Austrian journalist and pacifist Alfred Fried goes to the photographers from all over the world whose pictures capture human efforts towards a peaceful world. The authors of the five best photographs will receive the Peace Medal and will fly to the award ceremony in Vienna.
Prix de la Photographie Documentaire
Deadline: June 1, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: €20,000
Documentary photography contest. One of the most important conditions for the participants is to already have completed documentary projects, however the applicants will be evaluated based on the new project proposals. Five finalists will be interviewed by the judges, the winner will be chosen based on the interviews’ results.
