Muslim Woman Counters Anti-Muslim Protest with Selfies in Belgium

Zakia Belkhiri found a way to react to the anti-Muslim protests held by far-right activists.

Zakia Belkhiri from Antwerp took a number of selfies in front of the participants of the anti-Muslim protest organized by a local far-right party Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest), Vox writes. Jurgen Augusteyns, a local photographer, captured her doing so.

This happened during the Muslim Expo — a festival of Muslim culture that is held in the city for the third year in a row. About 40 activists with nationalist attitudes protested against the festival: they were holding signs that said “No headscarves,” “No mosques,” and “Stop Islam.”

A similar incident happened in Sweden earlier, where a 42-year-old Tess Asplund raised her fist in lone protest against a neo-Nazi rally.
