Instagram Triples Size of Photos
Last week Instagram began saving photos in 1080 × 1080 pixel size, writes The Verge. The resolution of a new picture is 1.11 megapixels, which is 2.85 times bigger than the previous resolution of 640 × 640.
Less than two weeks ago tech journalist Vlad Savov accused Instagram of not keeping up with the rapidly changing times. He pointed out that new smartphone screens are able capable of displaying photos in higher resolutions than the current size of Instagram’s photos. Last week, an Instagram representative confirmed to The Verge, that the company is implementing steps towards a 1080 × 1080 display size by first increasing storage size.
Launched in 2010, the app used to store images in 612 × 612 size, and in 2013 increased the resolution to 640 × 640 pixels.
