November Photo Contests
At the beginning of each month Bird in Flight updates you about photo contests for both professional photographers and photography lovers.
Atlanta Photojournalism Contest
Deadline: November 11, 2015.
Award: $500 – $1,000 for category winners.
No entry fee.
The photo contest dedicated to the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar accepts submissions in 12 categories. Works will be evaluated by the American photographer Ben Lowy, Pulitzer Prize winners David Hume Kennerly and Robert Cohen, and other industry experts. Attendance at the seminar is not required.
National Geographic Contest 2015
Deadline: November 16, 2015.
Award: Grand-prix of $10,000 , $2,500 for each of the category winners, publication in the magazine.
Entry fee: $15 per entry.
Open photography contest organized by National Geographic. There are three submission categories: “People”, “Places”, and “Nature.” Participation is restricted for Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria citizens.
The Lucie Scholarship Program
Deadline: November 30, 2015.
Award: $1,000 – $2,500 for three projects.
Entry fee: $10 or $20 depending on the category.
Lucie Foundation’s scholarship program for emerging photographers from all around the world. To participate, one needs to submit the description and realisation plan of the project, CV and 20 examples of previous works.
Aperture Portfolio Prize 2016
Deadline: December 2, 2015.
Award: $3,000 and a personal exhibition at the Aperture gallery.
Entry fee: $50-$450 depending on the membership form in the Aperture community.
Aperture’s contest is only open for members of the Aperture community – after paying the membership fee, one will receive the unique access code to the submission form. After the registration it’ll be possible to upload 15 photographs, artist statement (up to 250 words) and the CV to callforentry.org. The results will be announced in April 2016.
Mobile Photography Awards
Deadline: December 3, 2015.
Award: $3,000 for the grand-prix winner, $500 for the winner in the photo essay category.
Entry fee: $20 for three photos, $30 – for five, $50 – for nine, and $100 for 20 images.
Open mobile photography contest accepts photographs in 19 categories, among which – “Self Portrait”, “Documentary Photography”, “Nature and Wildlife”, and “The Photo Essay.” Сomputer manipulation is forbidden, however, photographs may be edited with the mobile devices.
Cell Phone Photography IV
Deadline: December 7, 2015.
Award: $500, $300 and $200 for three winners.
Entry fee: $30 for five images, $6 per each additional photo.
Mobile photography contest by the Texas Photographic Society accepts any kind of mobile photography. The winners will be chosen by Meri Aaron Walker.
Sony World Photography Awards 2016
Deadline: January 12, 2016.
Award: $25,000 for the grand-prix winner, a trip to London for the ceremony and the exhibition for category winners.
No entry fee.
This year the contest organized by the Sony and World Photography Organization is divided into two categories: Documentary and Art, each divided into seven subcategories. The submitted projects must consist of 3-10 photographs that have been completed in 2015. Participants have to be over 18.
CDS Documentary Essay Prize
Deadline: February 16, 2016.
Award: $3,000 and publication in Document.
Entry fee: $35.
Photojournalism contest by the Center for Documentary Studies (Duke University). To participate, one needs to upload 15 images, a one-page statement and CV.
D&AD Next Photographer Award
Deadline: February 17, 2016.
Award: $5,000 grant for the winner, participation in the mentorship program and project’s exhibition, trip to London.
Entry fee: £20.
Contest for the emerging photographers who’ve had less than 50% of their income coming from their own photography in the past three years. Five photographs (produced after January 1, 2014) have to be submitted – either as a series or as a single photos.
