American unexpectedly inherits a huge photo collection
Photographer John Oliver of Film Foto Forever (High Point, Virginia) unexpectedly inherited an enormous collection of photos. According to PetaPixel, his wife’s grandfather Jackson McIntosh Holliday passed away, and when the family was sorting through his belongings they found an old Leica IIIC in amazing condition and 20k plus slides of his pictures.
The slides have gone to John and he began scanning them in and digitizing them. “I had no idea he loved to photograph,” – he writes in his blog, – “a fact which I deeply regret not knowing while he was still alive.”
Among the photos that John has managed to digitize are several of young Jack with his Leica around his neck (the camera has been passed on to his great-granddaughter Vera Jane). The majority of the images had been shot with that camera, and the rest – with Rolleicord III and Kodak 35.

In one of our recent posts we talked about Dave Tomkins from the US who also discovered an archive of his grandfather’s photographs and built a site to learn where the images had been taken.
