At the beginning of each month Bird In Flight updates you about photo contests for both professional photographers and photography lovers.

Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year

Deadline: April 14, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: Grand Prize of £10,000, prizes in youth categories of £250-£1,500, a special prize of £750.

Astrophotography contest organized by Royal Observatory Greenwich, to participate one has to upload up to ten images onto the contest’s website. A separate category is created for the participants under 15, three winners in it will get £1,500, £500 and £250.

Streetfoto San Francisco

Deadline: April 15, 2016.
Entry fee: $20 per image (less if submitting more than four images).
Award: $500-1000 for the best photo in each category, participation in the exhibition, a subscription to AFP Magazine, publication of a book.

The Californian street-photography contest accepts submissions in three categories: “Best photo”, “Best photo series”, and “Best mobile photo.” The exhibition will take place in San Francisco in June, winners are to be announced on June 11.

FMoPA International Photography Competition

Deadline: April 17, 2016.
Entry fee: $10 per entry.
Award: $1,000 for the winner, participation in the group exhibition and a possibility to arrange a personal one.

Contemporary photography competition organized by the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. There are seven categories to submit one’s works in, drone photography is accepted as well as analog and digital.

Fine Art Photography Awards

Deadline: April 17, 2016.
Entry fee: $25 per image and $30 per series for professionals, $20 and 25 respectively for amateurs, $10 per each additional category.
Award: $3,000 for the winner among professionals, $2,000 for the amateur winner, participation in the exhibition.

Fine arts photography contest accepts submissions in 20 categories, among which – “Abstraction”, “Documentary photography” and “Nude.” The winner will be chosen by ten professional photographers from different countries.

Environmental Photographer of the Year

Deadline: April 18, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: Five prizes £500-£3,000 each, a yearly residency, participation in the exhibition.

The contest dedicated to environmental photography accepts submissions in three categories: “The Built Environment”, “The Changing Climate”, and “People, Nature and Economy.” To participate one has to send up to 10 images, their description and a short bio.

The Adventure Handbook: Photo Comp 2016

Deadline: April 24, 2016.
Entry fee: $5 per one image, $10 per three.
Award: Three travel sets (including Canon cameras) worth $3,000-$3,500.

Travel photography contest organized by the Australian publisher The Adventure Handbook. The sets include travel equipment and useful gadgets.

Inge Morath Award

Deadline: April 30, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: $5,000.

Inge Morath started a career in photography in the early 1950s and soon became the first woman member of Magnum Photos. After her death in 2002, her family set up the Inge Morath Foundation, and Magnum Photos established the Inge Morath Award. Every year the prize is awarded to female photographers under 30, to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. Entrants are asked to upload their photo project, a description, a curriculum vitae and an ID scan to the contest homepage. One award winner and up to two finalists will be selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers and the head of the Inge Morath Foundation.

Archive of Documentary Arts Collection Awards

Deadline: May 1, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: five prizes $4,500 each.

The contest is organized by Duke University’s Archive of Documentary Arts. Series that consist of 20-40 images can be submitted to each of the categories; female photojournalists, emerging photographers and innovators in the documentary fields will be awarded. Winning entries will become a part of the archive’s collection.

British Journal of Photography BreakThrough

Deadline: May 1, 2016.
Entry fee: £7.50 for one image and £27.50 for the series.
Award: publication in the BJP and participation in the Free Range photo exhibition in London.

Only students and recent graduates (up to five years after receiving a diploma) are eligible to participate in the BJP’s contest. The judges panel consists of the magazine’s editors, Vice UK’s Editor Bruno Bailey, It’s Nice That’s Art Director Jamie McIntyre, and Rough Trade’s Editor Liv Siddall.

The Emerging Photographer Fund 2016h

Deadline: May 2, 2016.
Entry fee: $25
Award: Two prizes of $5,000 and $10,000.

Grants for emerging photographers from Burn Magazine and Fujifilm for the continuation of the personal project. Entries from the applicants under 25 automatically fall under the “Young EPF Photographer” category with a grant of $5,000, however, they can still compete for the main prize.
