A new minimalist black & white iOS camera app is now available at AppStore

The new app for iPhone allows to take black & white photos of a much higher quality than those taken in a standard monochromatic mode.

Lenka, a powerful black & white camera app developed in France by photographer Kevin Abosch to create black & white photographs, became available at AppStore on 23 June. While the vast majority of camera apps shoot in color, Lenka goes the way of traditional monochrome, according to The Next Web.

Its interface is rather minimalistic: just shoot, observe the result, and accept or do over. The app’s automatic focus and exposure functions are helpful. It offers two shooting modes: normal and high contrast, which you access via a toggle button to the right of the large shutter button.

Photo editing pretty much consists of just crop and rotate. You can choose between a rectangular or square aspect ratio with an on-screen pinch. You can’t reach back into the camera roll and use the app as a filter. There is no social network but you do have the option to export your images to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, or share it via email or message. Your images are saved in the app’s own gallery.

Lenka is $2.99 at AppStore and requires iOS 7. It’s optimized for the iPhone 5 series but can be used on the 4 and 4s as well.
