Photographer Combines Portraits of Children and Their Parents

Photographer wanted to check if we indeed look so much like our parents.

Photographer Bobby Neel Adams has always thought that he looks like his mother. He decided to confirm this with the help of photography, by creating a series called Family Tree, which took him 20 years to finish. In this series, he combined photographs of family members from different generations. Portraits, combined in pairs in the middle, with two parts put together with the help of rubber cement, revealed a striking resemblance between his relatives.

“This composite photograph could be viewed as an eerie life-map: in fact, the montage of two different family members is sometimes mistaken for a montage of the same person at different stages of life,” Adams explained.
