Artists Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs Will Take Part in the Bird in Flight Prize Portfolio Review ‘21
Multidisciplinary artists Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs will review the works of selected participants of the Bird in Flight Prize ‘21 photo contest. Onorato and Krebs are an artist duo living and working between Slovakia and Zurich. Their projects, incorporating photography, sculpture, installation, film, and book publishing, have been shown internationally in many galleries and institutions, including MoMA PS1 in New York, Kunsthalle Mainz, Foam Amsterdam, LeBal Paris, and KINDL Centre for Contemporary Art, Berlin. The portfolio review by Onorato and Krebs will be carried out with the support of the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine.
When applying for the portfolio review, each competitor chooses three members of the judging team whom they would like to review their work. This year, in addition to Onorato and Krebs, the jury includes six more industry experts: Karen McQuaid (senior curator at The Photographers’ Gallery), Paolo Woods (photographer and co-founder of the Riverboom collective), Paola Jiménez Quispe (photographer, Bird in Flight Prize ‘20 winner), Valentine Bo (Ukrainian photographer), NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati (co-founder of the Photo Kathmandu festival), and Newsha Tavakolian (photographer based in Tehran and working with Magnum Photos).
One jury member is allowed to review the projects of no more than ten participants in the competition. Works qualified for review by the international jury will be previously chosen by the Bird in Flight Prize Preselection Board ‘21. The cost of an application for the portfolio review is €10. One-on-one meetings with the jury members will be held online and will last up to half an hour.
