Photo of Runner Taking Selfie Becomes Sport Photo of the Year
Jury of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) named a photo with a runner making a selfie by Troy Wayrynen the best sports photo of the year 2015. Wayrynen captured 17-year-old runner, Jacob Gillingham, making a self portrait at the beginning of a cross country race.
The young runner posted his mobile picture to Instagram:
The photo was never officially published before Wayrynen submitted it to the contest. The photographer thinks the photograph is a “a sign of our times” that’s “interesting and humorous at some level.”
