Robert Herman Publishes Book of Smartphone Images
In 2011 American photographer Robert Herman raised $10,559 on Kickstarter to publish his book The New Yorkers. It consists of images made by Herman from 1978 to 2005 with his father’s Nikon A and Kodachrome color film. The author was doing photography as part of his manic depression treatment.
Production of Kodachrome stopped in 2009, and Herman started making street portraits of New York residents with his smartphone using Hipstamatic. All the images have a square shape. The author is not registered on Instagram and uploads the photos on his page in Facebook. The best images will be compiled in a new Herman’s “mobile book.”
