UN Launched a Project about the Lives of Underage Mothers All Over the World

The authors gathered the stories of young women who became mothers early.

United Nations Population Fund and Plan, a children’s rights organization, launched a campaign called #childmothers aimed at drawing attention to the issue of early motherhood.

As part of the project, photographer Pieter ten Hoopen and journalist Sofia Klemming traveled around six countries and wrote down the stories of several girls who became mothers at the ages of 12, 13 or 15.

“There are two millions of girls in the world who become mothers when they are children, — the authors say. — These girls are often denied their rights and need support.”
