Google Shows the Changes That Happened to the Planet in the Past 32 Years

Users of Timelapse can see how a certain place changed between 1984 and 2016.

Google renewed Timelapse, a service it launched three years ago as part of Google Earth. The instrument allowed to trace the changes that happened to the planet between 1984 and 2012, but now the authors uploaded new satellite images, taken in 2016.

The interactive map allows users to see how a certain place change in the past 32 years. It can be scaled, to study the most visible changes.

25 regions that according to the authors have changed most dramatically are indicated separately: they show the growth of cities, drying of seas, and melting of glaciers. Google published some of them as short timelapses.

For instance, this is what the drying of the Aral Sea, which was once the four biggest lake in the world, looks like.

This is what the changes that happened to Doha, the capital of Qatar, in the past three decades look like.
