Quartz Makes a List of the Best Filmmakers of the Past 25 Years
Quartz published the list of 100 best directors of the past 25 years, after analyzing data from Metacritic, a popular film-rating website that evaluates movies based on the number of positive and negative reviews they receive.
The authors say that the resulting rating might be not entirely objective, as Metacritic includes mostly reviews written by American critics. And they most often write about the movies that run in US cinemas.
Richard Linklater, who created Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, and Waking Life, has the highest average mark among the movie experts, and therefore ranks first. One of his latest works, Boyhood, is one of the three movies who have a 100 on Metacritic.
Other directors in the first ten are Mike Leigh, Jafar Panahi, Jean-Pierre Dardenne, the Coen Brothers, Hirokazu Koreeda, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Pedro Almodovar, and Werner Herzog. Also on the list are Paul Thomas Anderson, Lars von Trier, David Fincher, Kar-Wai Wong, Steven Soderbergh, and Quentin Tarantino.
