Ukrainian artist created Dior fashion show decorations

Olesia Trofymenko, an artist from Kyiv has painted canvases with the Ukrainian ornaments for a Dior Autumn-Winter couture fashion show hold in Paris, July 4. The “Tree of Life” themed decorations have added to the Rodin Museum where Maria Grazia Chiuri, a Dior designer and creative director, has presented her show.

The massive floor-to-ceiling artwork depicting flowers, fruit and birds has become the central show piece. The canvases were hand-embroidered by the Indian Chanakya School of Craft craftsmen.

“For this project Olesia Trofymenko has tackled the issue of memory, as it is reflected through the traditional national art and photography. The tree of life and flower bouquets are initially symmetric matters, symbolizing the female sex and life continuity as well as the glorious future,” commented Maria Grazia Chiuri on the Ukrainian artist’s work.

The clothing presented during the show was also inspired by Trofymenko’s art. The image of the tree of life with branches, trunk and roots can be spotted in various models. The collection includes embroidered dresses, white lace shirt dresses, pleated skirts, fringe jackets, loose sleeve blouses, plaided sundresses and more.

Maria Grazia Chiuri invited Olesya Trofymenko to create a scenography for her show after seeing one of the artist’s works combining painting and embroidery at an exhibition in Rome. Trofymenko was born in 1982 in the city of Vilcha, Kyiv region. Studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture. Lives and works in Kyiv.
