Marina Abramović Selects Three Places for Her Own Funeral
The artist plans to turn her last journey into a performance.
During the Kaldor Public Art Projects Festival in Australia, the Serbian artist Marina Abramović revealed plans for her funeral. According to the artist, she will be buried simultaneously in Belgrade, Amsterdam and New York. Important parts of her life are connected to each of the cities, writes The Guardian.
Her body will be only in one of the caskets and no one will know which one. “One Marina is very heroic. I just go for it. I don’t care how much pain is inside. Then we have the second Marina – very different, very spiritual, very emotional ... And then there is a third one who really likes bullshit,” described the artist.
Marina Abramović also plans to have a rock concert at her funeral and wants the front man of Antony and the Johnsons to perform. “I want Antony [Hegarty] of Antony and the Johnsons, who is a great singer and friend of mine ... to sing "I Did It My Way." He never said yes but I think he will be so sad that I died he will probably do it,” says Marina.
Marina revealed her plans to be buried this way in the documentary “Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present” (2012).
