The Best Photographs Taken by British Army Photographers This Year

The jury of the annual Army Photographic Competition selected the best photographs of 2016.

Corporal Tim Jones was named Photographer of the Year for the portfolio of photographs that he took during the last year. “It’s pretty groovy to be honest,” the 31-year-old serviceman says. “I take photos for my job and at the end of the year look through my archive and pick out my favorites. I wasn’t expecting it; it’s cool.”

Other awards from the competition were won by Corporal Paul Shaw (his portrait of a comrade during a boxing match was named the best photograph of the year), Sergeant Rupert Frere (winner of the Professional Story), Bombardier Murray Kerr (winner of the Amateur Portfolio), Corporal Pete Brown (winner of the Professional Category Soldiering), Mark Owens, whose image won the online voting, and others.
