Infographic of the Day: The History of Olympic Wins in 100m Race

The New York Times showed the evolution of skills of track and field athletes in the past 120 years.

The New York Times published an infographic where it showed the history of Olympic wins in the 100m race: the authors collected data about the results achieved by track and field athletes who won the Olympics between 1896 and 2016 and visualized them on one image.

For instance, the best result of 1896 achieved by the American Thomas Burke was 12 seconds — in 2016, it would have left him out of the competition with the fastest runners of the planet.

Last week, another video became viral on the Internet, which was also about the evolution of the skills of athletes: it shows how the complexity of the performances has changed since the 1950s.
