Depositphotos Names the Main Visual Trends of 2017
Depositphotos published an article about the key trends that will dominate the world of visual communications in 2017: the authors analyzed the demands of their clients and interviewed the industry leaders — designers, photographers, illustrators, and art directors from different countries.
One of the main factors that defines the vector of development of visual culture in the coming year is the final shift of photography to smartphones: in the past 12 months, users published over 2.5 trillion photographs on the Internet, and 90% of them were taken with smartphone cameras.
According to the authors, this tendency explains one of the main trends of 2017 — people want to see candid and unpolished photographs instead ideal stages shots. This is true not only for photographs of people, but also for shots of objects, interior, or food photography: in 2016, the demand for ‘authentic’ photographs has increased almost threefold.
Among other trends identified by Depositphotos is the continuously growing demand for video content (according to the experts, in 2017 videos will comprise at least 74% of all Internet traffic), development of drone photography, and 90s nostalgia, which according to the authors is related to the fact that people who grew up in that decade are starting to make the rules in the world of visual culture.
