WPP Award is Taken from Giovanno Troilo
After two weeks of investigation World Press Photo made a decision to withdraw award from Italian photographer for the series “Black heart of Europe”.
On March 4th, World Press Photo announced their decision to disqualify Italian photographer Giovanno Troilo, who won the first prize in Contemporary Issues category. World Press Photo changed its previous decision when it learned that one of the photos of the story “Black Heart of Europe,” a documentary series about the Belgian city of Charleroi, was made in a Brussels suburb.
Consequentially, World Press Photo satisfied the request of the mayor of Charleroi to withdraw the award from the photojournalist because his work “twists reality.”
