WPP Published a Study on the State of News Photography
On Wednesday, September 23, World Press Photo published a study The State of News Photography on the current state of photojournalism. 1556 professionals from more than 100 countries were interviewed for the study.
PetaPixel reports that the collected information includes information about gender ratio, professional specialization of photographers, their income and level of education.
According to the study, about 85% of professional photographers are men, three quarters of news photographers earn less than $40,000 a year, with one third of them earning less than $10,000. 19% photographers work in news photography, 18% work on personal projects, 14% and 10% work in portrait and sports photography accordingly.
It is an interesting fact that only 66% of the respondents are satisfied with their choice of profession.
The study was performed with the help of University of Stirling in UK and the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
