Spanish Photographer Used Ancient Technique to Capture Birds in Flight

Ornitographies has been created using a 150-year-old photography technique.

Spanish photographer Xavi Bou used the ancient technique of chronophotography to capture birds in flight in his project called Ornitographies, Colossal writes. This technique allows photographers to avoid blurring which occurs in photographs with long exposure.

In chronophotography, you combine consecutive photographs. The flight of a bird captured this way looks like corkscrew. Unlike in the original technique, Bou uses Photoshop to create chronophotography effect. His photographs of several birds at a time remind a hurricane, not a flight of a migrating flock.

Bou describes Ornitographies as an attempt to balance art, science, and visual poetry.
