NASA Releases Photos of Oil Field Fire in Iraq
According to the Agency, at least twenty oil wells caught fire on the Qayyarah oil field.
NASA released satellite images of a fire in the Qayyarah oil field 50 miles south of Mosul in Iraq, taken by Landsat 8 between June 14 and August 17.
The photographs show plumes of black smoke that extend for several dozen kilometers perpendicular to the Tigris river. NASA says that at least 20 oil wells are on fire which, according to NASA, was caused by fighting in the Mosul area. The city is currently controlled by ISIS militants.
