NASA Dawn Spacecraft Took Close-Up Photographs of Mysterious Spots on Ceres
These are the first color images of the surface of the dwarf planet that show Occator Crater in detail.
Scientists from NASA’s Dawn mission presented new photographs at the 47th annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in The Woodlands, Texas, NASA official website reports.
The attention of researchers was focused on Occator Crater. The latest images of it were taken from the height of 385 kilometers, and reveal the recent geological processes that are yet to be investigated.
The photographs also allowed to detect water in Oxo Crater and establish that the surface materials vary in different parts of the planet. This may result from an earlier collision between Ceres and another celestial body.
Earlier this year a NASA team modeled a flight over Ceres from photographs provided by Dawn.
