Misty Copeland Poses as a Character in Degas’ Paintings

Ballet dancer Misty Copeland, famous for being the first African American solo performer at the American Ballet Theatre, took part in a photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar, where she appeared as a character of paintings by Edgar Degas. The project is dedicated to the opening of his exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on March 26.

“Trying to re-create what Degas did was really difficult, — Copeland said. — It was amazing how he still allows you to feel like there’s movement. That’s what I think is so beautiful and difficult about dance too. You’re trying to strive for this perfection, but you still want people to get that illusion that your line never ends and that you never stop moving.”
