iPad App Will Help Counter Vandalism in Florence

It is planned to equip all architectural monuments of historical importance with tablets with the preinstalled Autography app.

The Autography app allows visitors to leave their mark on the digital copies of century-old buildings. After premoderation, every message will be saved in the special online archive. The idea belongs to the non-governmental organization, Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, which is involved in the protection of many architectural monuments in Florence and is looking for ways to stop visitors from covering the facades of historical buildings with graffiti.

Tourists can leave their messages on tablets placed inside Campanile di Giotto. Soon this feature will be available everywhere on Piazza del Duomo, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the dome by Brunelleschi, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the crypt of Santa Reparata and the Museum of the Opera del Duomo.
