Infographic of the Day: Global Peace Index

There are currently only 10 countries in the world that are not part of any military conflict.

International group of experts from the Institute for Economics and Peace presented the Global Peace Index. Ukraine placed 156th out of 163, 6 points lower than a year before. Russia placed 151th, between the DPRK and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Syria is considered the most dangerous country, along with South Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan and the Central African Republic. The rating was compiled based on 23 factors that include violence and crime rates in the country, relations with the neighboring states, access to weapons, and political instability.

The 5 safest countries include Iceland, Denmark, Austria, New Zealand, and Portugal. The US placed 103th, Great Britain placed 47th. The authors of the index also noted that violence rates have generally gone down everywhere except the Middle East last year, and the military expenses have decreased by 10% in the past three years. According to the index, there are currently only 10 countries in the world that are not part of any military conflict.
