British architect Norman Foster will help to rebuild postwar Kharkiv

Norman Foster, a British architect and designer, agreed to participate in the reconstruction of Kharkiv after the war. Foster + Partners architecture studio has confirmed this information to Bird in Flight.

The studio revealed that on April 4 the Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov addressed Norman Foster during the UN Forum of Mayors in Geneva with a plea to lend a hand in rebuilding the city. “The Norman Foster Foundation is recognized by the UN as a progressive practice centre, and Lord Foster, acting as its President, has pledged to assist the Mayor and the city of Kharkiv by any means possible,” the studio’s press-centre emphasized.

Foster + Partners architecture studio was founded in London in 1967. Norman Foster is deemed as one of the high-tech architecture creators. His projects are characterized by vast open spaces, wide range of glass and metal, versatility. The most notable studio projects include 30 St Mary Axe London Tower, Millau Viaduct in France, Reichstag building redevelopment in Berlin, Apple headquarters in California and Hong Kong HSBC Bank Building. Foster was awarded the 1999 Pritzker Architecture Prize and the 2003 Quadriga prize.

In early March Foster + Partners has made a decision to cease all its activities in Russia due to the latter’s invasion of Ukraine.
