Japanese Satellite Captured a Supertyphoon from Space

A weather satellite - Himarawi-8 - made several photographs of supertyphoon Atsani and typhoon Goni that formed in the Pacific Ocean.

Slate reports that Goni and Atsani may become the first simultaneous supertyphoons since October 1997.

Goni may threaten the Philippines, Taiwan, and/or Japan over the next several days, but Atsani should remain safely out at sea.

Japanese meteosat Himarawi-8 flew into orbit in October 2014 and takes images of the Earth’s surface every 10 minutes.
