Instagram of the Day: Good Soviet Logos
Lithuanian designer Rokas Sutkaitis created an Instagram account where he publishes little-known Soviet logos.
The account shows logotypes of companies, book series, universities of Azerbaijan, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian, Russian Federative and other Soviet socialist republics. Some of them were created in the 1960s, some — in 1970s and 1980s. While some of the logos were originally in color, Sutkaitis makes all of them black-and-white.
The designer spent several years to find the logos in old exhibitions catalogues, rare designer editions, and on the artefacts of the Soviet epoch: books, souvenirs, household appliances. He says that he found some of them in the really unexpected places, such as the forum of Russian plumbers. Sutkaitis currently has over 800 logos, and he continues to add to his collection.
