Infographic: How the GDP of Different Countries and US States Compare

The authors studied the reports of the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the International Monetary Fund for 2015.

The American Enterprise Institute published an infographic where it showed how the GDP of different countries compares to the GDP of US states. According to the economist Mark Perry, the authors used data provided by the Bureau of Economic Analysis and International Monetary Fund.

The comparison is visualized as a map where the names states are replaced with the names of the countries with a comparable GDP. For instance, the GDP of California alone is bigger than the GDP of France ($2.46 trillion versus $2.42 trillion). This way, if California was an independent country, it would be one of the top ten largest economies in the world.

Other interesting comparisons: Texas has a GDP similar to Canada, Ukraine — to New Mexico, and Florida — to Indonesia.
